All About Me

Hi! I am so glad to have you here! My name is Janka and I am the breeder behind Sassicaia Italian Greyhound Kennel.

It all began in 2010 with our beloved Basenji, Mylo, who has since crossed the rainbow bridge. His spirit inspired us to expand our family, welcoming Zaire, a basenji female, followed by our spirited whippet Tsunami, two playful Pharaoh hounds. We shared our lives later on with a Cirneco dell'Etna, a Podenco Ibicenco, and an older Azawakh Lady among the many mixes we wanted to rehome but fall in love. Each of our furry friends has brought unique joy and love into our lives.

 

My journey of compassion and dedication to greyhounds started there. Our love for these incredible dogs has fuelled our passion for rescue, leading us to save dozens over nearly a decade. We've partnered with sanctuaries and worked tirelessly to rehabilitate dogs that have faced hardship, nurturing their spirits and restoring their health.

 

From early encounters with dog shows and various sports like coursing, racing, and obedience training, our journey has been filled with joy and learning. While we cherished our purebred dogs as beloved family members, it wasn't until later that I developed a deep appreciation for genetics and breeding. That is where my story as a breeder starts.
